Serving Our Country and Protecting Our Communities Is What My Family Has Done for Generations

In 1918, my Maternal Grandfather joined the Army and served our country during WWI in France. He later became a civil engineer with the Army as a civilian. After the war my Grandfather moved with his wife and five children to Arizona and settled in East Mesa. He continued to work for the Civil Service, commuting between Arizona and California and later moved to Fort Huachuca, where he finished working, then retired after serving a total of 17 years and 7 months for our country.

My father served in the U.S. Air Force for 20+ years. He served in the Strategic Air Command. He had Top Secret Clearance with the US Government and excelled at everything he did, garnering many achievement awards. He and my mother met while both were working at Williams AFB in Arizona.

My father was a dedicated American and led by example. He and my mother raised all six of their children to respect and love this great country we live in. Taking pride in a job well done is one of the many things they instilled in all of us.

My son Jarod has served, and is still serving, his country for over 20 years.
I couldn’t be more proud of his amazing service record. He is a Telecommunications Systems Chief in the US Army and has had three Middle East deployments, been stationed in Germany and in South Korea 3 times. He and his wife Kelly have two sons.

My son Brandon Mendoza was a police officer with the Mesa Arizona Police Department for 13 years before he was tragically killed in a head on collision with a drunk driver on May 12, 2014.

His personal commitment to Mesa and the community showed in all he did. He encour- aged the youth at the Grant Woods Boys and Girls Club and the Mesa Arts Academy to stay in school, get an education, stay out of trouble and realize their dreams of what they wanted to accomplish in life. He poured his heart and soul into revitalizing the Guerrero/ Lindsay Park in south Mesa. His annual Thanksgiving Dinners at the Boys and Girls Club benefitted those who lived in the area. He was an incredible son, officer and friend to all.
